A great SEO definition is given here.
“Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s ‘natural’ or un-paid (‘organic’) search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific search engines.
“As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience.” – Wikipedia
My SEO Definition
In today’s world of marketing, it is required to create engaging and valuable content. As I have covered in many previous blog posts, the days of SEO with cheap links and little content are over. This is by design because search engines, after all, are in the quality control business. They want to ensure you find exactly what you are looking for and they hire the best minds in the world to develop software that not only tracks how you have searched in the past, but also attempts to predict your actual intent while searching.
My SEO definition is “Sharing Energized Observations.”
Observation, by definition, is more that just what we see in front of us.. Oxford gives a great definition, “The ability to notice things, especially significant details.” Your content should be comprised of the very words in that definition:
- Your ability. (clearly visible to the customer)
- What you have noticed; your unique view.
- Offer content that is significant, particularly in quality and context.
- Your attention to details.
These observations are then crafted into your content, whether it be a blog post, a video, white paper, podcast, or even an individual tweet. Once crafted, a sense of of energy is not only woven into the content itself, but in the efforts to distribute that content to the right audiences. If you are not energetic in your pursuit of beneficial SEO, then creating energized content from your brand will seem tiring and a waste of time, effort and budget.
Take This SEO Definition Test
Write down the last piece of content you’ve recently consumed and truly enjoyed. Now analyse that content by answering these questions.=:
- Did it demonstrate or prove the ability of those who produced it?
- Did it make your notice something differently, or see it is a new way, even if slightly?
- Did it have something significant to say or about it?
- Did it feature any particular details that were novel, inspiring, insightful, thought-provoking or revealing?
- Did you feel compelled to share that content with others, online or via word-of-mouth?
